| 内容記述 | Social identity is the central psychological concept to explain intergroup relations. It is thought to be reflected in the actual intergroup behavior, with the help of the mediating effect of group identification. However, empirical studies have provided evidence of its effect only to a moderate degree at best. On the basis of a series of "field reality" studies, and of a brief review of the existing explanations for the unexpected evidence, the present study puts forward a new proposition that the sense of field reality (of the target group) is a necessary condition for the mediating effect of group identification to operate. Some theoretical elements are discussed with regard to the proposition. Furthermore, utility of the sense of field reality concept is demonstrated in a thought experiment: it is hypothesized to help actualizing the mediating effect of group identification. | |||||||
