While the university entrance rate has drastically risen since 1990s, socioeconomic disparity in access to university has not necessarily decreased. On the other hand, the effect of academic achievement on access to university has significantly decreased during the same period. More detailed analysis revealed, however, the decline of academic achievement effect on whether to go on to university was found only for those with lower socioeconomic background.
