In this study, a research survey of recognition of disease and self-control of general life was performed on outpatients (34 cases) of multiple myeloma in Gunma University Hospital and its related hospitals, and the results are as follows: (1) About half of the patients recognized that they have a tendency to get pathological fractures, but only 10% of the patients recognized their real genesis. (2) The Number of patients who recognized the necessity of exercise was small, but that of doing exercise was large. (3) The protection of complications has been carried out positively in a large number of patients according to the advice of doctors, but the reason of its necessity has been recognized in only a few cases. Moreover, side effects of drugs given have been advised by doctors mainly in only 30% of the patients. (4) Almost all patients have been examined regularly, but the necessity of such examinations hasn't been recognized in most cases. (5) The degree of recognition of self-control of general life was compared with every group classified according to the clinical staging by Durie et al. The results showed a significant difference (p<0.05) in three points: symptoms of pathological fractures, wearing of corsets and the necessity of taking enough water, furthermore the higher the stage became, the more the patients showed a tendency to put self-control of their general lives into practice. |
