The authors surveyed the state of occupational therapy services in Gunma University Hospital. All the patients who received occupational therapy service in the last fifteen months totaled fourteen, aged 2 to 80 years. All the patients had physical disabilities, with half of them having cognitive dysfunctions as well. The received occupational therapy services 1 to 2 times per week. They were also trained in self-exercises to compensate the low frequency of occupational therapy services. They did not recieved physical therapy services at all. All the patients recieved therapeutic exercise through occupational therapy, and half of the patients recivevd activities of daily living training and other purposeful activities. The authors discussed the problems of the present situation of occupational therapy services and the necessity improvement as compared to the other University Hospitals. This demonstrates that a full-time rehabilitation staff and a team approach system are neccesary. |
