| 内容記述 | The growth and polyamine synthesis of a eubacterium Paracoccus denitrificans which contains putrescine, cadaverine, spermidine, aminopropylcadaverine, spermine and thermospermine were inhibited by 0.1-1mM paraquat in the polyamine-free medium. A halophilic eubacterium Paracoccus halodenitrificans which is devoid of polyamines was more sensitive to paraquat. The growth inhibition by paraquat was not attenuated by the addition of O_2^- radical scavengers into the medium. The exogenous supplementation of polyamines decreased the paraquat toxicity. The paraquat toxicity found in Paracoccus seems to be caused by the DNA binding of paraquat which acts competitively with polyamines at the site of binding to DNA rather than direct cell damage by O_2^- radicals produced by paraquat. | |||||
