内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 Twenty college students were collected on campus In U.S.A.; Ten students were non-smokers and another ten students were smokers. The effectiveness of biofeedback training (hand warming training) with autogenic phrases was compared between non-smokers and smokers in measuring blood pressure, muscle tension, and finger temperature. And also these variables were compared after training and smoking in the smoking group. Fifteen minutes hand warming training was used as a treatment. The training took 30 minutes for non-smokers and fifty minutes for smokers. Smokers smoked a single cigarette after the training, and blood pressure, muscle tension, and finger temperature were observed. In the comparison of blood pressure and muscle tension between non-smokers and smokers, there was no significant difference. But finger temperature was higher in nonsmokers than smokers after the training (t=3.954, .001 significance level). Within smoking group, blood pressure was not significantly changed, but muscle tension (t=2.671 and .05 significance level) and finger temperature (t=3.713, .01 significance level) were observed significant effects after smoking. The smokers seemed to become more relaxed after smoking that resulted in increased finger temperature and decreased muscle tension. According to Finnerty and Linde, smoking tend to lower blood pressure for certain people because they reduce stress by smoking. In this study, there was not significant reduction in blood pressure in the smoking group, but all smokers lowered either systolic or diastolic blood pressure in some degree after they smoked.
