This study aims to assess by questionaire, the quality of life (QOL) of hospitalized aged cancer patients in order to improve nursing care. The seven items for QOL assessments consist of appetite, mood, quality of sleep, cardiac and/or respiratory symptoms, digestive symptoms, and other symptoms, and activities of daily living. 20 cancer patients over 65 years old were selected as subjects of this study and the QOL at the time of admission to the hospital, excerbation and discharge were evaluated respectively. The rsults are as follows: (1) At admission, the percentage of those who answered ""good"" to the question about ""mood"" was very low, however, it took a favorable turn as the hospitalization became longer. (2) Half of the patients were assessed as ""symptomless"" on the question about cardiac and/or respiratory symptoms and these patients further increased at the time of discharge. (3) The change of assessments of the item ""activities of daily living"" was smallest during hospitalization and each scale was variable. (4) Inview of these results, ideas for nursing care were discussed. |
