| 内容記述 | Some English loanwords in Japanese have moraic obstruents, but others do not. The occurrence of the moraic obstruents seems to be elusive in the traditional approaches. The present paper attempts to provide an answer to the problem within the Optimality Theory framework. Some constraints and their rankings are proposed in regard to the occurrence and non-occurrence of the moraic obstruents in loanwords. The constraints refer to the prosodic structures of both English and Japanese languages. This seems to suggest that Japanese people try to imitate English pronunciation, especially English stress as closely as possible. | |||||
