| 内容記述 | 19世紀に、社会を理解する事の可能性への懐疑や不信が増大し、結果として、知る事の出来る関係と、知る事の出来ない社会との間に亀裂が生じている。Charles Dickensは彼の後期の小説の一つBleak House(1852-53)において、共同社会認識の危機に対して重要な反応を示している。Dickensはロンドンの警察力の集合的な力と情報を描き、Bucketという人物を通じて社会についての新しい形の認識を表明している。Bucket は特別に注目を引く人差指を与えられており、それはグロテスクな描かれ方をしている。本論文は、Bucketの人差指によって代弁される社会共同体の構造を分析し、又捜査中におけるBucketの独特の情報収集方法を探り、最後に、公私両面におけるBucketの他の人達への親切な態度や人間味について分析している。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | In the nineteenth century an increasing scepticism in the possibility of understanding society takes place and as a result a split between knowable relationships and an unknowable society comes about. Charles Dickens articulates his responses to the crisis of the knowable community in one of his later novels, Bleak House (1852-53). Dickens represents the collective power and knowledge of the London police force and articulates a new form of knowledge of society in the character of Inspector Bucket. Bucket is gifted with a most remarkable forefinger and it is described grotesquely. This paper is an analysis of Dickens' attempt to reform current society, which he symbolizes in the structures of a social body represented by the fat forefinger of the main character Inspector Bucket. An examination of the processes of Bucket's unique approach to gathering information in his quests is provided to support Dickens' accurate view of present society. Finally, an analysis of Bucket's kindness and sympathy towards the characters both in his public and private life is discussed to demonstrate Dickens' desire for a more humane society. | |||||
